I have 1 day to spend in Sydney Australia. What do I do?

Does "one day" include a night or is it basically 9am to 5pm? I'm presuming you have eight hours or so.

Wear comfortable shoes, you are going to do some walking.

Get the train/bus/taxi to Circular Quay. Walk through First Fleet Park in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art to George Street, turn right for Argyle St. Walk up Argyle St through the Argyle Cut to Observatory Hill. Look at the Garrison Church and check out Sydney's oldest pub, the Hero of Waterloo. Walk down Lower Fort St to Dawes Point and walk under the Bridge to Hickson Road and follow it round taking in the Overseas Passenger terminal and Cadman's Cottage. Continue round Circular Quay to the Opera House then walk round Farm Cove through the Botanic gardens to Mrs Macquarie's Chair. This will take you three hours or so depending on what you stop to look at and how fast you walk but you will get some amazing views and great photographs on just about every part of the walk.

Get the bus from Mrs Macquarie's Chair back to the city and head for Sydney Tower, the tallest building in the city. Book in for lunch and ride up to the revolving restaurant. You can view the entire city while you have lunch.

After lunch, head back to Circular Quay and take the ferry to Manly. When you get to Manly, walk across the road to the Corso and walk down to the beach and go for a stroll. Check out the shops on the Corso if you want to. Take the ferry back to the Quay.

Depending on how much time you have left, you could take the bus to Bondi Beach or go to one of the many museums or art galleries. The Australian Museum and the Powerhouse Museum are well worth a look or you could go across to Darling Harbour for the Maritime Museum or the Aquarium or the Chinese garden or just for a stroll around.

It will be a busy day but you will see all the major sights of Sydney that can be seen in one day. Were you to stay longer, Taronga Zoo and the Blue Mountains are a must as is Macquarie Street with all its colonial architecture but they will have to wait for next time.

Is argyle still popular?

Yes-argyle print is back...It was much used in the soccer (known as football in Great Britain) dress of the early 1900s, both for jerseys and for the long socks needed for the plus-fours trouser fashion of the day.

It has seen a resurgence in popularity in the last few years, due to its adoption by John Stockton in collections produced by luxury clothing manufacturer, Pringle of Scotland.[citation needed] Argyle socks are worn by revivalist golfers playing with hickory clubs in the pre-1930 style.
