Barbershop Quartet Day

On April 11, 1938 the Society for that Upkeep and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in the usa began in Tulsa, Oklahoma, marking the state celebration of Barbershop Quartet Day. The look of 4 putting on hay hats singing along with complex harmonies could be described as a cultural cornerstone from the nineteen forties. However, Barbershop Quartet is in no way a united states invention the recognition of barbershops in England among males throughout time of Shakespeare extended as far as with-house entertainment, frequently taking the type of a lutist supplying a tune that the queuing patrons could harmonize with. This concept and exercise grew to become popular in the usa in the western world throughout the late 1800s, though a banjo was frequently used rather than a lute.

Can You Still Hire A Barbershop Quartet Type Group To Sing For Someone ?

Aww, that so sweet! I suggest googling barbershop quartet and then the area or city that you live in. I guarantee you that you can hire them. Hope this helps :)

Good songs for a Valentines day signing telegram?

Get one more person & make it a barbershop quartet. Dress in the old-time style, too. Then you can sing all the old-time songs like "Let Me Call You Sweetheart."

Check out some of these links for both the styles & the songs.

Here's a clip from The Music Man.

Red jackets, red & white striped vests, & flat-shaped white brimmed hats & straw hats were all big.

Cha Cha lists a few of the barbershop quartet songs...Moonlight Bay, Ain't We Got Fun, Pretty Baby, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, & Shine On Me (referring to the moon).

Here are a few more links for more songs.

You could include a few modern ones, too, such as the Beatles singing, "When We're 64." (Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when we're 64? etc.) Another good one is "Lovely Rita Meter Maid." Those would be a couple of possibilities that would fit in with the others from the barbershop quartet era.

Now I'm seeing what you said about being alto. Does that mean that you're ladies? Yes, I see from your activity page that you are. How fun! You could still wear something like a feminine version of the barbershop quartet outfits. One costume site showed the female version of this with a white pleated skirt, but maybe you can do better than this. Hope you have lots of fun with this.

You might also look at some youtube videos of women singing to see what you like. There's a group called The Fondettes that sings vintage songs that are mainly from the 30's-50's & generally wears vintage dresses from the 40's. I looked at old groups like The Boswell Sisters, The Andrews Sisters, & the McGuire Sisters (all trios) as well ones from the 70's like The Pointer Sisters, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, & Lydia Pense of Cold Blood, but didn't see anything that would be especially good for you. Still, maybe you'll see something you like if you look along those lines. Besides the songs, you can see a variety of types of clothing, including some sexy dresses, especially those worn by The Pointer Sisters.

The other problem that you would have to think about is the copyright laws. If you're only doing it on that one day, you might get away with it. Likewise, if it's not for money, there shouldn't be any problem. However, if you're "borrowing" them indefinitely to make money, you could be in big trouble over it. I don't know what others do when they're singing telegram. You might have to go further back in time to things like "Someone's In the Kitchen With Dinah" or "Hey Good Lookin'" & others. Might be smart to check into that. I hope it works out for you because it sounds like a very good idea.
