Will my three fishes die in five days?

Fish can survive for weeks without food. While it is never suggested you go without feeding your tank for weeks - a small five day trip is not an issue. If you are still concerned about the safety of your fish during your trip you can do a few things:

1. Have a friend feed them 1x a day while you are gone. This will allow them to check on the filter and heater and make sure everything is working well. This can even be just one time in the middle of your trip

2. Many fish stores offer time release food capsules that can be dropped in the tank and left. They allow for a short term source of food.

Honestly, I prefer not feeding or using a time release food. Friends and non fish keeping people tend to feed the fish too much, leaving excess food to rot in the tank and deteriorate the water quality. I will let my fish be or have a friend come to feed them one time on trips of 7 days or less. For trips of more than 7 days, you might want to teach someone to feed them daily.

Is it healthy to eat fish every day?

Is it healthy to eat fish every day?

Fish is a good source of protein and, unlike fatty meat products, it’s not high in saturated fat. It’s also a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which benefit heart health.

The American Heart Association recommends eating fish at least twice a week. However, some types of fish may contain high levels of mercury...

Salmon has a very low amount of mercury, as does flounder, and catfish.

Tuna has a moderate amount of mercury. Grouper, Halibut, and Swordfish have quite a bit of mercury in comparison.

So really it looks like the older and bigger fish have the highest mercury levels, which makes sense.

Is today "Fish Destruction day?"?

Is today "Fish Destruction day?"?

Anybody thats ever kept fish for an extended period of time has had a day as bad, or worse then that. A friend of mine was big into breeding chiclids, he had countless tanks and $1000's invested in fish. He got a new gf that came over to clean his apartment, ending up using a cleaner with amonia in it on the tanks and wiped out every single fish he owned in all his tanks. I can't remember the exact count, but I think he lost around 100 or so fish.
