Friday, June 28, 2024 is Great American Backyard Campout 2024. 2012 Great American Backyard Campout – June 23/24 Great American Campout

Actually, this is not a scouting event, this is an event for everyone. June 28, 2008 is the 4th annual Great American Backyard Campout.

This is an annual event sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation to promote camping by encouraging people to camp locally within their community...or in their backyard with friends and/or family.

There are several ways you can participate in this:

You can do your own thing in your own backyard.

You can camp in your backyard with some scouting friends.

You can sign up to be a sponsor and host other like-minded families in your community.

Or you can look online at their website in your area and see if there are any sponsors you might want to sign up with.

Not all of these are happening in backyards...some are happening in local campgrounds...some are sponsored by local scouting groups and they might use their facilities as a campground, etc., and some groups might be happening in neighborhood parks.

As you can see, this event has a bit of flexibility to it. I would suggest you look at their website for some more information about it and to see what is happening that day in your area. It really sounds like a fun activity!
