What does becoming a mental health counselor consist of?

A licensed mental health counselor has met or exceeded the following professional qualifications:

Earned a master's degree in counseling or a closely related mental health discipline;

Completed a minimum of two years post master's clinical work under the supervision of a licensed or certified mental health professional; and

Passed a state-developed or national licensure or certification examination.

You will need to earn a bachelor's degree. Any major is acceptable; however, a degree in psychology would probably be the most helpful. This would take at least four and perhaps five years. It will probably take you at least 2-1/2 to 3 years to complete your master's degree. Therefore the entire process, including your supervised experience, will take between 8-1/2 and 10 years.

How much you work each week is decided by you and your employer. Normally, counselors work about 40 hours a week, but not all of that time is spent in counseling.

what is vitally important is to choose your healing route- for this problem ----- carefully from good information—that means knowing drugs/meds treatment for this can/will be damaging to your mind and body .drugs only mask the symptoms they do not cure.

7 be amongst people who are giving, friendly who have time for you who love you , choose your friends well . choose your company well.

10 ensure you do no acts which hurt or inflict on anyone –don’t want to add to your karma do we !!!
