And here's a better technique for fish hook extraction than pushing through and cutting off the barb. I've used this technique successfully three times on dogs and twice on humans, including myself once. It's quick and painless. From experience I can tell you, that a fishhook embedded in your flesh doesn't hurt, hardly any at all really, but when you try to push it on through, the closer it gets to the surface, brother, that's when the pain starts.

Take about 12" of fishing line and make a loop. Pass the loop over the shank -- you're going to use it to pull the hook out backwards. Now, push down on the shank of the hook, and give the loop of line a sharp yank. When you push the shank down while pulling the hook out, the barb is forced down away from the flesh, and it comes right back out the same hole it went into. Pay close attention because that hook is going to go flying.

when my daughter was almost 2 she was sitting next to me on my bed and we were watching cartoons. she had gotten ahold of a small halloween sized laffy taffy and i didn't know it... well all of a sudden she was choking... scared the daylights out of me. i know you can't do the regular heimlich on a child that age so i grabbed her and turned her tilted down and was hitting her back.. (the baby heimlich).. anyways.. it never came out, it must have got stuck in her throat and then she swallowed it the rest of the way.

talk about lucky.. we both cried and she had a sore throat for a couple days.
