Inauguration day was originally on March 4, four months after election day, but this was changed to noon on January 20 by the Twentieth Amendment in 1933.

I'm not sure WHY January 20th was chosed.. as opposed to January 15th or 22nd ?? I can find no historical significance for Jan. 20: other than it being the First day of sun sign Aquarius.
