WHYYYYYY CANT I GET A JOB?

This is a tough job market and there are new people getting laid off or loosing their jobs everyday. It is important to have a plan of action to get that new job quickly. Here are some tips to help you find employment durring a recession.

1.Get the ball rolling. If you have been laid off or fired you will want to file for unemployment and start your job hunt as soon as possible. You don't want to "take a couple of days off" this can lead to several days off and a long, unwanted vacation, also known as depression. If you will need any type of financial assistance, get in line now. Many financial assistance programs take a long time before you receive the help you need. Please see the resource section below for a link to "How to Get The Financial Help you Need When You Need It."

2.

You catch more bees with honey than vinegar!

Check your attitude and improve it! You will want to maintain a positive attitude when you are looking for your new job. This can be really hard to do when you have just lost your job and even harder the longer you go without a new one. But, you are more likely to look for work and more likely to get hired if you keep your attitude up. Don't forget to smile in your interviews and keep the conversation light and positive.

3.

A professional resume can make all the difference in the world!

Update that resume. Don't rely on spell check to check your spelling. There (their)are too many ways to spell two and you're(your)not going to get the correction out of spell check. Check it twice and have every friend you know check it twice. Make sure you are honest on your resume because companies check for accuracy and they can afford to be picky.

4.

Post that Resume!

Post your resume on ALL online search sites. Jobing, career builder and Monster are just a few of the many sites out there. Even your local newspaper should have a place for you to post your resume online. Google Job Search Sites and see what you come up with. Leave no stone unturned in this area.

5.

Get by with a little help from your friends!

Network! Let all of your friends on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter know that you are actively seeking employment. Most of the best jobs are found through friends. Get in touch with old classmates, old teachers and be sure to talk to your neighbors. DO NOT turn into a recluse and stay inside not talking to anyone. Now is not the time to be too proud to ask for help.

6.

Be productive.

Make a full time job out of looking for a job. If you are not spending at least 8 hours a day looking for your new job, you are not really looking. There are plenty of things you can do from posting your resume to knocking on doors and making phone calls. This should be a very busy time for you, not a party.

7.

Pound the Pavement

Pound the pavement. If you know of a company that you would like to work for, go put in an application. So they might not be hiring today but one of their employees just might turn in her two weeks notice tomorrow. Register at Temporary Agencies and see if you can't get your foot in the door.

8.

Let your fingers do the walking.

Change your mindset. Look at jobs that are recession proof. For instance hospitals not only employ Doctors and nurses but they have clerical personnel as well. Grocery stores all get their products from warehouses and there are all sorts of positions in the office headquarters. You might have to take a part time job (or two) to make ends meet until you find the perfect job for you. Sometimes lowering our standards gets us into a company at a lower rate of pay but once we have proven ourselves we get promoted. Freelance work or starting your own business are also options that you may want to consider.

FOR THOSE who have a job where you’re on your feet ALL day..

FOR THOSE who have a job where you're on your feet ALL day... doing repetitive actions over and over...HOW?

Yeahhh.

I work at a boarding kennel. My shifts are 6 hours which I guess isn't "all day" but it still sucks. We're constantly sweeping and mopping and spraying down kennels, which starts to take a toll on my back. Then each dog needs to go outside one by one--not so bad until you get the 100lb dog that wants to run you on a marathon. And then there are dishes. Lots and lots of dishes that need to be washed.

I really hate it. It's not all "YAEY PUPPIEZ!" like I guess I fantasized about, and like everyone else thought it would be. The money doesn't motivate me. It's $8/hr but I'd gladly go somewhere that only paid minimum wage, if it was a more enjoyable job. I just don't really want to go on another job hunt right now.

I am on my feet in one spot all day. Have done it for alot of years. Your body will always hurt. There is not a whole lot you can do. I stay where I am for job security. I am in no situation to just quit and go else where.
