Libraries have changed quite a bit in the past 20 years. Mostly, in part because of new technologies- including computers. Libraries are now the new social centers. People gather at libraries not only to get materials, use computers and attend programs- they come to socialize.

Librarians are probably the worst offenders- they have to answer phones, help patrons on computers, find books, etc and act as policemen when behavior warrants.

Say something to the Library Director if this upsets you, or, come to the library when it is quieter- like in the morning.

Books on library shelves?

You know, I've been to a library in an Arabic country multiple times before and honestly can't remember in what order the books were arranged. This will be nagging at me all day now :) I'll come back and edit if I can remember and if the question isn't closed yet.

Will libraries one day be extinct?

People will say I remember when there were Dodo birds and libraries...
