How has history effected your life? i need some examples because i am doing a history assignment?

How has history effected your life? i need some examples because i am doing a history assignment?

It effected me in too many ways to set forth here.

My parents were children of the Depression. My Father fought in World War II while my Mother went to College (rare for the day) AND worked in an aircraft factory at night.

We (my brother and I) are probably closer in attitude to the generation before us than to those of our age because of this.

We were taken to Historic sites throughout the Northeast on "vacation" while our friends went to Disney something. We watched War movies with a running commentary from my Dad. We were made to earn our spending money and put ourselves through school (even though our parents had it - they DID help), we were almost automatically made members of the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution (although it's interesting that my Maternal Grandfather yanked ALL his five daughters out of the D.A.R. when it refused Marian Anderson permission to sing at Constitution Hall - they didn't have a choice - they didn't know he did it until after the fact).

Because of this, which we often resented at the time, we know much more about the History of our Country than most. It also piqued our interest and, in later years, although I became a Lawyer and my brother a Doctor, we teach OUR children what we were taught - much to my son's consternation.

I might be a lawyer - which is History in a nutshell - but I now TEACH it. My brother's kids are enveloped in it as they live a block from the National Cathedral. I have an advanced degree in History - Roosevelt to Roosevelt.

My son might b***c to his friends when I question him - but he knows his family and his Country's history. His Grandfather was his hero. He brought tremendous joy to the "old" folks at the Senior Center for years when he went over there and showed them his Grandpa's medals - not because Grandpa was awarded them - the kids thought they were cool - but the old timers were impressed that he knew what each was, the circumstances which brought them to Daddy and what the War was all about. Not too many 8 year olds know that - he's 18 now.

Although I have SERIOUS reservations - he is seriously considering joining the Service when he graduates. His Grandpa did. And his Grandma was the first woman on the floor of the Chicago Commodities Exchange. Not a bad legacy.

I am the Attorney for my City's Historical Preservation Commission, County Historical Society and have walked the field at Gettysburg countless times.

I'm boring you. I LIVE History - at home, at work and with my boy. We are proud to be American because we know how hard it was to create and defend this Nation.

I had to mend his "favorite" jeans before school started. What did he give me to put on the spot - an American Flag. His belt buckle was given to him by his best friend who is in the Army out of Fort Drum. He won't wear any other until Rob comes home safely.

I'll stop now.

That's how History effects me and mine.

Ehh.... the Guiness Brewery.

The National Museum.

Croke Park.

Leopardstown Races and Shelbourne Park.

Grafton Street and St Stephens Green to feed the ducks (which are now like the fattest ducks in the country).

Go on the Luas, go on an open topped city tour bus.

Get stuck in traffic at the Mad Cow.

Take a trip out to a nearby beach like Donabate.

Get a tattoo "i love ireland" across your face in TempleBar. Go on the D.A.R.T to Bray and climb Bray Head.

Visit the Shelbourne/Hilton Hotel.

Infiltrate the RTE television studios.

Go for a swim in the Liffey.

Become truly Irish, and go shopping in Dunnes Stores.

Trinity College and the Book of Kells.

Go to a Cèilì.

Walk the Wicklow Way.

Climb the Spire.

And..... talk to the locals!

Have a nice time!!
