National Guard/Help/Question?

First off, as a Reserve/National Guard Soldier you will still go through all the same initial entry training as your Active Duty peers. The only difference is that you come back to your area of residence once training is complete to begin your one weekend a month for Battle Assembly, and two weeks Active Duty a year for Annual training. All Reserve and National Guard Soldiers must go through a validation process once they are slated for deployment to a theater of operation. During this validation process, the unit must train on all areas crucial to a successful deployment to include equipment use, weapons qualification, lane training, medical training, language training, culture and history briefs, etc. Once the unit is deemed good to go by the command group, they push off to begin their mission within a certain timeframe. So regardless if you go Army Reserve or National Guard, you will be trained to accomplish the mission. Keep in mind National Guard is state funded whereas the Army Reserve is federally funded. What this means to you is that when the state runs out of money, you could possibly feel the reprocussions by being on the states payroll. If your Army Reserve, you are under federal command. Bigger piggybank vs smaller piggybank. Go talk to an Army Reserve recruitier before you join the National Guard!
