Friday, December 20, 2024 is National Sangria Day 2024. Happy National Sangria Day! - phillyburbs.com: Wine Happy National Sangria Day!

I have a business meeting in Barcelona on March 13, I want to drive through Spain from March 1st

Ahh, skip the Sangria, anyways...it's just cheap bad wine for the tourists, almost guaranteed to give you a headache. Stick to the good stuff: Sherries, Tintos, and Cavas. Ask the bartender what to recommend.

I had a great time around Barcelona...We went to Tarragona: great Roman Ruins. Figueres was cool for the Dalí museum, and Girona was a really great medieval town. I missed Cadaqués, which I really wanted to do, and we were planning to go to the French border, just to have a snack...but since the rental car didn´t come through (long story), we dídn´t have time for it. Valencia is pretty special...they´re planning the America´s Cup race there, I can´t remember when, but that´s a big deal. They have this HUGE new Aquarium there. It´s worth going just to check out the architecture, all designed by Calatrava - he´s like, the premier architect in Spain these days. If you think you have time, there´s all the mountain towns there, and wineries and the Cavas (cava is Spanish Champagne), if you´re of a mind to tour one of them. Teruel isn´t too terribly far from Barcelona. A town full of these Mudéjar towers that all have ceramic tiles on them in green and white. (check out websites. See if it´s anything that interests you.)

As for 4 - 5 star hotels...you should be able to find a few. The National Paradors are lovely, and there´s one near Barcelona, along the Costa Brava, I think, that´s highly recommended. They are nationally run hotels. They have a website. I´ll see if I can´t find it.

This is the website for a castle you could stay in...If you click on the homepage, it´ll take you around. There´s a map in there so you can click and see what they look like.

Buen viaje!

Applause for not sticking with the GF just so she will help you with your party, but, dude, you are in trouble!

Get on the phone and start calling! Some groceries have a catering department, you can order anything the deli serves, in quantity. Some restaurants do too, salad, pasta, chicken, salad, bread sticks, all except the dronks. Do you have a bartender friend who could either, help, or tell you what to buy? An easy thing is to have a theme, and a theme drink. Like, serve mexican food, and make pitchers of marguarettas and sangria, that will cancel the need for a bar.

Some catering companies will do last minute parties, if they are not booked, but often charge extra, have a late fee.

In a pinch, some local restaurants and some of the big chains have a party room, and either let you go through the buffet, or offer a limited menu, If the place does not serve alcohol, have everyone over to your place after for drinks, or move to a bar where you have made arrangements.. Another is to call a restaurant, tell them the number of people, and see how they can help. A national chain that sells wings, and a national chain that advertizes that they are hometown will accomodate up to around 20 people in the restaurant.

And do not forget the local bakery! Call them and order a selection of desserts, and have everyone over for a dessert and coffee, after a restaurant experience.

Good luck!

Things to do in Washington DC?

Things to do in Washington DC?

Every Friday in the National Sculpture Garden there is a free jazz performance. People bring picnics, LOTS of people, and is a great time. There are bars set up around the garden where you can buy beer, wine, sangria (and pitchers of them too) to enjoy with friends. By the time jazz wraps up, the sun is going down and you can see the Capital Building at night (which is just gorgeous).

You may also want to go by Bohemian Caverns - a historic dc spot. A quick walk down the block from Bohemian Caverns is Bens Chili Bowl! Bill Cosby eats for free, everyone else pays cash. The place is a DC institution.

If doing the monuments and such, and if the day is nice, walk around the Tidal Basin to the Jefferson Memorial. The reflective pool by Lincoln Memorial is pretty classic as well.

Holidays also on this date Friday, December 20, 2024...
