National Thrift Shop Day 2024 is on Saturday, August 17, 2024: Any bookstores or thriftstores within walking distance of the National Mall in DC?

Saturday, August 17, 2024 is National Thrift Shop Day 2024. Happy National Thrift Shop Day! Happy National Thrift Shop Day!

First, the various Smithsonian Museums, including the National Gallery of Art, have outstanding gift shops that are well worth a visit.

Don't know about Thrift Shops close to the Mall--suspect there aren't any due to the price of real estate.

There are many new bookstores in downtown DC. Borders has several, as well as Barnes & Noble, within walking distance of the Mall. If you want a local bookstore, Politics and Prose is worth a visit and again isn't particularly far.

Used bookstores are harder to find these days. Most have gone Internet-only. The one that comes to mind that wouldn't be hard for you to find is Second Story Books at Dupont Circle, which is only a block away from the Red Line Metro station of that name.

Should I start a consignment shop?

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. Also take a look at Entrepreneur's online guide.
