Scud Day

SCUD Day represents Savor the Comic, Unplug the Drama Day, and motivates those people whose lives might have a touch way too much drama to step back, loosen up, and enjoy the funnier side of life. Leisure and wit are good for your physical and mental wellbeing, so transform the dramatization down a degree and enjoy a good laugh instead.

What is a Scud Missile?

The Scud missiles were developed by the Soviet union during the cold war.scud Scud was first deployed by the Soviets in the mid-1960s. The missile was originally designed to carry a 100-kiloton nuclear warhead. With only a few kg of substances left, it is very difficult for the missile to reach it target precisely.Realy in the military it is difficult to know the availability of a weapon unless hard proof is provided so no one know if saddams claims where true or false.

9 days after Clomid, did your boobs get huge?

Dear Erin

You posted on my question a few days ago & completely misunderstood what I was saying. I have not had children because I wanted to give them a secure start in life & at least to start off with a happy secure base for them meaning that so many people these days end up separating,(I am afraid its a fact that most of my married friends are deeply unhappy & several have separated ) not that I have an illness! So I am saying that I would never have considered having a child on my own & I was horrified by anyone who even contemplates that, as I said, that is selfish not to give a child 2 parents who at least from the start are happy together. I work with disadvantaged kids & have done for more that 20 years & I see the most horrific family circumstances. Like it or not people do have kids who cannot properly look after them. But I waited all this time for the right relationship to have kids in but it didn't happen & I am devastated. You called me selfish & said I need to see a psychiatrist. Thanks for that.

Re the embryo this was something that came up with a married friend of mine who was told she couldn't have kids. She found a clinic, not in this country, where I have to tell you that it is their policy that the donations - this is what they call them - are anonymous & the donors can never be traced. I have researched & it is happening that women are going abroad & paying for embryos particularly of Russian & eastern European women. I specifically asked one clinic to be clear if I would know who the donors were in case this information was needed & they said no they do not keep this information. I have also read articles from the womens point of view who donate the eggs & afterwards will never know where they ended up if they became a baby.. But no I am not going to do this. I had no idea it went on & having discovered it I asked the question to find out if anyone had an experience of it. Incidentally my friend contemplated going abroad because she was things were happening so slowly here not because of the anonymity. As I said in my question this would be very painful for a child. As for having the right to have a child which you mentioned that is certainly a point for discussion especially with what I see in my job. Anyway there was one happy ending to all of this & that is that my friend got pregnant naturally & now has a baby boy.

Status of SCUD missiles?

Status of SCUD missiles?

SCUD is a NATO reporting name back from the era when actual Soviet weapon designations were often not known. Depending on version the original Soviet missiles were the R-11, R-17 and R-300. These theater tactical ballistic missiles were designed to deliver nuclear warheads over relatively short ranges (150-300km). Because they were nuclear delivery systems accuracy was not critical.

Export models (usually R-17) carry conventional HE warheads instead. Because these warheads are obviously far less lethal which combined with the inherent lack of precision effectively makes them terror weapons, not weapons of military consequence. In essence the modern equivilant of the V-1 and V-2 weapons of WWII.

North Korea has for about 30 years been producing reverse-engineered versions of examples it acquired from Egypt and has exported them to Iran who used them against Iraq during the "Battle of the Cities" during the spring of 1988. Iran now produces the North Korean copy of the Egyptian supplied Russian missile as the Shahab-1. A longer ranged North Korean development has also been exported to Iran and Syria.

The weapon causing so much consternation in the west these days is the Radong 1 (Shahab-3) co-funded with Iran and featuring a 1,000km range and 2-4km CEP (circular error probability = 50% chance of striking within 4km of aim point).

Iranian use of longer-ranged North Korean sourced missiles resulted in Saddam Hussein's government deploying their own extended range R-17 derivatives towards the end of the Gulf War since the standard R-17 that Iraq used could not reach Tehran from Iraqi territory. Several variants were developed and used during Operation Desert Storm.

Over 30 countries use these missiles, copies or enhanced North Korean versions. They are not going away any time soon.
