the vernal equinox happens on the first day of spring, no matter where you are. you could be at the north pole, and have a 12 hour day and 12 hour night (actually, the sun would hover on the horizon the whole time, but if you lived in northern canada, it would be 12-12) the equinox is just where the tilt of the earths axis tilts in a direction parallel to the surface of the sun. I have no idea what else you want me to say.
