What If Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day

Let's Say Felines and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day prompts us to consider how our dogs and felines would deal with getting opposable thumbs – not to mention us!Aside from using What If Cats and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day to celebrate our pets, it is also a reason to take advantage of Illustrator and publish relevant photos of felines and dogs with opposable thumbs on social networking. Offering awards for that funniest records on animal friendly groups and forums is an excellent method of stimulating interest during the day.Let's Say Felines and Dogs Had Opposable Thumbs Day may also be used to boost understanding of dog and cat welfare issues. Dressing like a family pet, within the title of the local pet shelter, filled with opposable thumbs, will definitely grab people’s attention.

im 13 and i lost my cat :’(?

Contrary to Terry's comment that cats romantically "walk into the sunset" to die - they DON'T. But cats of all ages DO end up run over by cars, eaten by coyotes, poisoned, picked up and sold to test labs, killed by loose dogs, etc, when their owners let them outdoors. I guess people tell themselves this romantic notion to relieve themselves of the guilt for their cat's death.

Not sure how you think any of us can magically know whether your cat will be back or not. Call the local shelter tomorrow and ask if she's been picked up. Go door to door with her picture. Ask neighbourhood kids to look for her. And if you do find her try a lot harder to NOT let her out. It's not like she has opposable thumbs and can open doors on her own. If she door dashes then get a baby gate for the door.

Anybody have anything funny to say about this? Or is it just stupid?

Anybody have anything funny to say about this? Or is it just stupid?

it's the dumbest piece of crap I've seen in a long time.....

Do vets ever declaw just the dewclaw in cats?

Do vets ever declaw just the dewclaw in cats?

Yes they do, in a situation where the claw was deformed or injured, maybe unable to be retracted and even though you were clipping her claws every week, it kept getting caught and hurting her, I think any vet would do that.

In a lot of countries that is the only sort of situation where it is legal. but it WOULD be done if it is considered medically necessary & the claw was causing her pain.

(Of course the first step would be keeping it clipped and see if it that could prevent it getting caught. )

So I agree with you that this was overkill. Think of it like if you had some horrible injury on one finger that for some reason made it necessary to amputate the last third of that finger. Would it make sense to amputate all the rest of your fingers at the last joint, too? No, so it didn't make any more sense to amputate the last joint of all the cats front toes to solve a problem with the dewclaw.

Hopefully your cat is doing OK now and is not one of the ones that has long term complications.

And hopefully you won't have another cat that has such a problem. but if you do, for future reference, you won't have to turn to such a drastic solution when you are the one making the decisions.
