Is enough blood being donated?

Is enough blood being donated?

The world is experiencing crisis in blood supply due to discriminatory practices, hurricanes, ineffective campaigns and less donors are giving blood.

American Red Cross says more than 38,000 blood donations are needed daily but "only 5% of donors who are eligible donate blood nationwide." In a downloadable file released by the organizers of World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), "only 40% of donations are collected from developing countries each year." Over 80% of world's population live in these developing countries and if only half of this number donate blood, it's not enough to supply the needs of "25% people worldwide" who require blood at least once in their lifetime.

You see, if American Red Cross "can motivate these eight million potential donors to give blood, shortages in supply would be a rare event." But it takes some time before that can happen. That's why; as early as now, you can join the blood donation campaign and encourage everyone you know to donate blood.

Blood banks are looking for responsible volunteers to organize a donation drive and it's really a big help to them if you share them your time and expertise in promotion and recruitment. Blood bank volunteers are the heart and soul of a blood center; that's why - today is your chance to make a difference and be proud about it.

Below are links in which you can search for the different blood banks, especially American Red Cross, in the country. Scan it and choose a blood bank of your choice. Whether you'll choose to volunteer in blood or in plasma bank, you are still saving lives.
