World Jump Day?

The site wasn't working when I tried to access it. But it probably wouldn't work if everybody tried to jump at the same time. Even if we had enough weight / mass / energy to do it, people on the opposite side of the globe would cancel the other's push so basically nothing would happen. But hey, it's nice dreaming we could destroy the world just by coordinated jumping ;)

Does anyone know about ’World jump day’ - is it a hoax?

Wether true or not the idea of people jumping effecting the Earht's orbit is extremely bad science. Their are days for everything now though so it wouldn't be surprising if someone was trying to organise this. There is of course a huge problem however in co-ordinating such an event given the difference in not only actual time between places but also peoples perception of what that time is. For instance... if you are trying to make everybody in a certain hemisphere jump at the same time - this requires precision. To prove this sin't possible tyr this instead. Get everybody in a room to jump at the same time each first using their own watches or phones etc.... without syncronising them (as in the real situation this wont be happening)... I bet you couldn't even organise a symultaneous jump of 20 people this way... let alone several hundred thousand!!

World Jump Day!?

World Jump Day!?

LMAO! The total mass of all the people on the earth is so small compared to the mass of the earth, this will have exactly NO effect.

In fact, even if the mass of all the people on earth *were* significant compared to the mass of the earth, this would have no effect. People jumping would then change the orbit for a couple of seconds. Then it would go back to what it was.

*giggling uncontrollably*

Holidays also on this date Saturday, July 20, 2024...
