What is the 100 days of life celebration in the Philippines?

Baek-il (100th day of baby's birth) In Asia:

This is the day to give congratulations for 100 days after a baby's birth. The number 100 has an inherent meaning of maturity and perfection, signifying a baby passes through perfection period safely as a human being. People bring presents and congratulatory statements and wish for the baby's health and blessing.

The several different types of rice cakes are prepared, including baekseolgi (steamed rice cake), bulkunp'at gomul (red bean rice cake), ch'alsusu gyongdan, and osaek songp'yeon (5-color moon rice cake). Baekseolgi has the symbolic meaning of holiness, bulkunp'at gomul for expelling evil spirits, and ch'alsusu gyongdan for returning a baby which is secured in a holy world to the worldly place on that day. The 5-color moon rice cake is made with 5 pretty colors, signifying the harmony of nature. Unlike the rice cakes of Samchil-Il, the rice cakes for Baek-il are shared with neighbors from the belief of a baby's longevity and blessings.

Celebration, yes or no??

Celebration, yes or no??

Every day I celebrate

a celebration

of words,

coming together,

founded in this

tangled web,

becoming one with

faces I've not seen,

knowing deep thoughts,

and small intricacies.

I find paradise,

celebrating the celebration.

Thanks, this struck me so hard I had to write a little verse in response. Hope you don't mind. Beautiful poem for a lucky man, and I'm certain, a lucky woman. Blessed Be.

Is Halloween a celebration of DEATH? Should I expose my children to this, or to LIFE?

Is Halloween a celebration of DEATH? Should I expose my children to this, or to LIFE?

It started as a celebration of life - of the lives of all the good people who have gone before us to God's kingdom. it started as the Eve of All Hallows, of All Saints Day followed on November 2nd by All Souls Day when you can remember and pray for all those who have died in the hope of eternal LIFE.

Images of death were used around All Saints Day, and still are in Catholic countries, but as a reminder that death has been conquered, not something to be feared.

Sadly, the more puritanical protestants in America decided to get rid of the celebration of saints so they banned the religious side of the festival. The customs and imagery continued but the true religious reason for them was forgotten, so you ended up with the sort of Hallowe'en you have in the USA.

In Catholic countries, the original idea has not been forgotten and people remember all Christians who have died- they celebrate their lives, not their deaths.
