Question about Diwali days and date?

Diwali really lasts only for 3 days which are public holidays. The day before and after the said three days are not celebrated throughout India or even officially. The three days -

1. Naraka Chaturdashi - Oil Bath ritual, lighting of lamps, holy rituals to Lord Vishnu

2. Lakshmi Puja - Lakshmi the goddess of wealth is invoked and special prayers are offered

3. Bali Padyami - Bali the powerful king who was killed by Lord Vishnu in his "Vamana Avatar" is believed to have been allowed to come to the world this day, once every year to spread the light of knowledge.

All three days are marked with firecrackers, prayers, gifts exchanged, home decorations, and lots of food.

If you are in India, be prepared for a noisy and smoky 3 days(the only bad part) and lots of fun and show of wealth, lots of tasty food and beautiful clothes :) Happy Diwali!

What is diwali day to Hindu?

What is diwali day to Hindu?

Well,..... i am a Hindu & Diwali is a very important festival 4 us. Main reason 4 celebrating it is that we want to remind ourself that GOOD always wins over Evil.

It is a festival of lights marking the celebration of the return Lord Rama to Ayodhya after beating evil king Ravana.

It is a festival celebrated between mid-October and mid-December.It is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing various activities ( like burning crackers, lighting lamps & giving presents ) together in their homes.

While Diwali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light".

The celebration of Diwali as the "victory of good over evil",refers to the light of higher knowledge dispelling all ignorance.

4 us diwali means that we can burn lots of cracker , have Fun & enjoy over holiday.

Its very similar to Christmas. I think both diwali & Christmas has one message in common : " love &

victory of good over evil"

Diwali????

Diwali????

Diwali* is a Holiday/ festival like no other in the World.

Literally, Diwali, a short form of Deepawali means a row of Lamps.

Many say it is like Christmas. Maybe. It is similar to the importance.

It is a time to clean and make the house like new.

It is a time to wear new clothes.

To exchange gifts.

To Light up the House.

To make sweets and lots of good things to eat.

To pray.

To distribute clothes, food and gifts to the needy.

To light up the inner soul. Not just the House.

And so much more----

The only thing that all love is the Fireworks. Diwali and fireworks go together. Cannot have one without the other.

But we want the Earth to be Green. So it is dampening people when we propose that we pollute less each Diwali*.

Crackers cannot be banned yet. But requests are floated to use less and less. And a lot of truly educated people do not burn crackers.

I can go on and on. I hope you can come to India to see what Diwali* really is.
