I used to eat dinner with my parents every day. Yet, I didn't really talk to them at the table much. I usually talk as much as an average person would when eating with anyone else.

People who are more social will obviously talk more. Those who are less so, might not talk as much.

Also, it depends how comfortable people are with talking while eating. Some people just don't like it, and rather would focus on the meal. Some would rather focus on the person with them rather on the meal. No problem with either one, just preference.

We have dinner all together and discuss our day, though our little ones are still young. It is very rewarding for them to know that we are a family who is interested in each other's lives. We also eat breakfast together, and I sit down to lunch with them every day. Even though they don't participate too much about their day, you'd be amazed at what they pick up just from listening to mommy and daddy talking. They get to see, first hand, what a healthy relationship between a man and a woman sounds like, looks like, and feels like.
