Wednesday, February 26, 2025 is For Pete's Sake Day 2025. For Pete's Sake Day Holiday - for pete's sake day

For Pete’s Sake Day

Oh, for Pete’s sake! Not another pointless holiday? For Pete’s Sake Day remembers an example of the ‘minced oath’, where an offensive word or phrase is replaced by some thing acceptable in society. Other good examples include ‘For screaming noisy!’, and ‘Sugar!’. Such euphemisms happen to be employed for centuries whenever people hit thumbs with hammers, burn on the job hot plates, or take a seat on sharp things during polite company. Why has Pete been designated for special attention?Within the situation of this specific minced oath, Pete will probably make reference to St Peter. However, if there is a Pete inside your existence, why don't you make a move for his sake? It doesn’t need to be much – making them a mug of tea or perhaps a nice sandwich could be good!If you're Pete-less, possibly you are able to celebrate by saying ‘For Pete’s Sake’ if you have an chance.

For Pete’s Sake!?

Pete is St. Peter it was slang back in the day... like medieval times. They couldnt say the lords name in vain w/o it being a sin and since Peter was an apostle, his name had the same rule. Its like saying "Oh Lord!" or OMG!

Why do people always say "for Pete’s sake"?

Why do people always say "for Pete's sake"?

It is a minced curse for taking the Lord's name in vain, instead it is less offensive to say "for the sake of St. Peter!"

As for robbing Paul to pay Peter, it is a phrase to mean borrowing money to pay a debt only gives you more debt, developed in the 1600s or earlier when everyone was used to hearing Peter and Paul together. It would be like saying "Rob Micky Mouse to pay Goofy" now, they were just the most common characters of the day.

do you agree with bull fighting? i mean they kill them for pete’s sake!?

I think only Spain allows the killing of the bulls in a bullfight. If I'm not mistaken, Mexico and Portugal (although ususally killed by a butcher after the fight and out of sight of the arena) do not allow for the killing of the bull during the fight.

But, they certainly do inflict a LOT of HURT on the bull to torment him, and THAT is what I so TOTALLY DISAGREE with! Even the (in-)famous "Running of the Bulls" in Pamplona, Spain, these bulls are tormented as they run. What kind of "bravado" does it take to throw firecrackers at a frightened bull? What bravery does it take to stick the animals with "picks" and knives that STICK and HANG in the bulls' flesh?

I think the "blood sport" is long overdue for it's extinction. I see no benefit, certainly no SPORT, to it whatsoever. It is sourced in long-past mythology and animal worship.

Frankly, the new, American "Freestyle Bullfighting" is MUCH more challenging, and a true SPORT. The animal is not hurt or injured intentionally in any way, and lives to "fight" another day! The bullfighter in THIS type of bullfighting is a true athlete who risks great injury, and great "reward." Now, this kind of bullfighting is really exciting and fun to watch!

Have a polite day.
