is it polite to wear sandals in an international flight?
It's only impolite to wear sandals if your feet smell. (Like in the movie, "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.") However, keep in mind:
1. If there's an emergency, it's safer to have a more substantial shoe.
2. The possibility of getting flip flops caught in an escalator as mentioned by a previous poster.
3. The fact that airplanes are often cold.
4. The fact that airplane restrooms often have water, and sometimes urine on the floor.
I wear regular shoes (Merrills) that don't lace that I can easily slip on and off. When I'm at my seat, I take them off. But when I get up and walk around, I put them back on.
You can pack your flip flops in a side pocket of your suitcase so when you get to your destination, you can easily find and switch to them.
