What is a "baseball purist"?

In my mind, a Baseball Purist is more of a traditionalist type of fan that goes back to the Golden Age of Baseball. Which encompasses the 1940's to the early 1960's.

This period of time denotes when a fan was a baseball fan. And went to various ballgames in which his team was in a particular stadium that he/she enjoyed going to at a regular basis. The baseball players were not represented by agents and could not move around as freely as in nowadays making big, big, money. A Major Leaguer was usually identified by a particular team for many years. Just to mention a few, Joe DiMaggio with the New York Yankees, Bobby Doer with the Boston Red Sox, Stan Musial with the St. Louis Cardinals, Bob Feller with the Cleveland Indians, etc. These men were not only Hall of Fame ballplayers but played ex-amount of years with there ballclubs. The only time they missed playing with their ballclub was when they served in the United States Armed Forces.

The traditionalist is more of a Baseball fan that wants to see the wild card in the playoffs eliminated. He wants to see the team with the best win-loss record in each divison represented in the World Series.

The members of a certain team had respect and loyalty for the team in which they played for, today they are only interested in monetary returns from any team in which they serve.

By being a Baseball purist the DH should also be eliminated in the American League which means that the National and American league go back to the old days in which the designated hitter was not used. A Purist fan enjoys the pitcher staying in the game and either trying to bunt or move the runners along without being pinch hit for. This makes the game more competitive and also brings out the managerial skills of different teams. Teams with more money can get better power hitters or high average hitters as DH'ers when they leave different leagues. In the old days the baseball game was more of a thinking mans game matching wits with different managerial strategies.

When I was a young fella watching the baseball games the DL for 15 games was a ridiculous aspect of the game. Today, a man has a toothache they put him on the DL for 15 days which is highly ludicrous. In Modern Day Baseball, baseball players are treated like polyannas, or prima donnas. Years ago, players played hurt and would not like to be taken out of a game. The difference of baseball is night and day.

A Baseball Purist or traditionalist should see some more daylight games in the sun because this was an old baseball tradition for the young and old. Night games are ok but everything you see now is a night game.
