In meteorology, how is a rain day defined?

A rain day is any day on which measurable rain has fallen at the official weather station. "Measurable" is defined as .01 inch of rain or more. A trace or just one drop of rain does not count. It also doesn't count as a rain day (for the purpose of weather records) if rain falls somewhere in the area, but not at the weather station.

homework question How can Rain effect or day?

Rain can affect a person's mood. Some people love rain, and others look outside to a dark cloudy sky and feel, well, dark and cloudy. With a dark sky, many people can easily feel tired (like it's nearing night time). Rain also can affect your clothing choice for the day and how you feel in the clothes (extra weight with a rain coat, boots, having to carry an umbrella, etc.). Then there are also factors from the rain that can ruin your day, such as a car driving by and splashing water from a puddle on you, accidentally dropping something in a puddle, the rain creating mud which may get all over you, and so on. Some people cannot drive in the rain, and therefore the traffic may be slower or car crashes may occur due to decreased visibility. Rain may ruin your hairstyle and for the remainder of the day you might feel ugly or embarrassed. What if your roof leaks or you work as a construction worker and you don't have work that day? You don't get paid and that could be a problem if you live paycheck to paycheck.

Rain/Snow on senior picture day?

Rain/Snow on senior picture day?

I was watching a video on photography businesses and the senior portrait photographer had this same issue one day and he simply shot in the rain....got some sexyish photos of the female client. After that the client's friends wanted rain on days it did not rain, so he put a water feature in to simulate rain. I think it could be great. I know I just shot some pics of my kids in the rain with a rainbow umbrella and I think it would work for a senior shoot too. If you are a female especially (I can't see a user name for a hint), I think you could really work this. If your friend is a "real" photographer, you should not really have any issues. You can also find an outdoor urban setting that is sheltered from the heavy weather...i.e. a porch. If you have a coat with a fuzzy hood it is great for framing your face in head shots and will keep you warm. If you use a combination of solutions you will get great results. I am not a professional, but if you want to see the shots of my young kids in the rain (which would of course have to be modified for an adult...i.e. grab an umbrella and use it while balancing a walk on your local train track), check here...

Indoor shots...Is there an architecturally interesting public building around...a library, a courthouse? Is there somewhere you spend a ton of time? Something you enjoy doing indoors? Is there a parking garage that is sheltered but open to natural light with nice brick walls (or other urban walls)? Even sitting on your bed, cuddling a pet or a funky/fun pillow (and after your done cuddling the pet, grab a cheap feather pillow and with a hidden tear and swing tossing feathers all around you)...LOTS of photo opportunities out there. Be unique and playful and it will be memorable.

Holidays also on this date Monday, July 29, 2024...
