May, 2025 is Tay-Sachs and Canavan Diseases Month 2025. Frontiers in Bioscience 5, d307-311, March 1, 2000] A 23 month old girl with
she needs to see a hematologist or an immunologist.
has she been tested for cystic fibrosis? has she been tested for HIV? (sorry to ask that one, but it has to be ruled out so that they can narrow the possibilites of what she does have going on with her.)has she been screened for genetic disorders? (not diseases or illness but being a carrier for certain traits like: Tay-Sachs or Canavans or Sickle Cell or Antigens or Antibodies ON her actual blood cells? [not antibodies or antigens to certain diseases.])
have both parents been screened for all of these things?
90% of these things would not affect her development anyway. hence, it's more difficult to diagnose.
seriously, she needs to be referred to a hematologist and if they can't figure it out, then to an immunologist. INSIST that her doctor refers her to these specialists! it will put your mind at ease to know what's going on & that it's not problematic or that it is & that she just has to be treated with benign medication daily. i know what's it like to just want to find the root of the problem. you don't want her to have a problem but you need answers!
hang in there & good luck!
