Watermelon is not a high calorie fruit. It is mostly water, so it will help to keep you well hydrated. It is also a decent source of dietary fiber and has nearly 0 fat. Watermelon is an excellent source of potassium and vitamins A, C, and B6. Tomatoes have received the lion's share of attention when it comes to lycopene,(Lycopene, besides being the red pigment that gives the flesh its color, is an antioxidant known to prevent cancer.) even though there is less per serving (4 milligrams in a cup vs. 9 in the same amount of watermelon). Watermelon is also listed by the American Heart Association as one of the best foods for cardiovascular health.
Having said all of this, a continual diet of any one food source is never a good idea. On many "detox" diets watermelon is one of the acceptable foods. But these diets are only for short term use. For a long term or "life style" diet, you should definitely add some more protein, some carbohydrates, and some vegetables.

Eating watermelon for just ONE day will help cleanse your body. It's like fasting, except you're eating watermelon (and water) for just the day. I doubt that you'll lose any fat, but it'll definitely help lose some water weight!
