Woolworth's Day 2021 is on Monday, February 22, 2021: where did the Woolworth's shopping line originate?
Monday, February 22, 2021 is Woolworth's Day 2021. File:Mule Day 1939, businesses of H.A. Mc Elroy, Charles and ... File:Mule Day 1939,
F. W. Woolworth was a pioneer opening department stores with low prices in the United States originally. Woolworth's was one of several chain stores generically called 5 and 10s because in the very early days, even before my time, all items in the stores were supposed to be 5 to 10 cents (US).
As competition got fiercer, the original Woolworth's stores began to disappear to be replaced by Woolco stores. Eventually many North American Woolco stores were bought out and are now (if still open) are Walmart stores.
Woolco had some smaller specialty stores selling women's clothing, shoes and children's items in malls. The stores are still there but I haven't checked to see if Woolworth (Woolco) still owns them.
Goodbye Woolworth's, I know it's not a question?
Where I live in St. Louis, Missouri, the last Woolworth's I'm aware of went out of business about 20 years ago. I did not know they were still around. It was a good store.
HMV, Comet, Woolworth's, Blockbuster, Game . . . . . . Who's next ?
BHS' days are surely numbered? The Body Shop? Thorntons?
