Juneteenth: A National Holiday?

Juneteenth is recognized as a state holiday or state holiday observance in 36 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Congress. Americans of African descent were slaves on the"4th of July", 1776.

As the leader of the Campaign to Establish Juneteenth Independence Day as a National Holiday Observance, I believe all Americans should come together to celebrate freedom and the end of enslavement. Juneteenth also provides a great opportunity for reconciliation and healing from the legacy of enslavement. We are not advocating for Juneteenth to be a paid federal holiday because it will be a burden on tax payers. As a national holiday observance, Juneteenth will be placed on all calendars and recognized by the government as an official special day of commemoration and celebration.

Juneteenth should be established a National Holiday Observance because we all share the common bond of freedom as Americans. Juneteenth completes the cycle of Indepenedence Day celebrations, starting with the "4th of July" and completed by the "19th of June" because "None are free until all are free!"
