is this relationship normal? or is he too obsessed?

You cannot get out of it without hurting him. If you are not willing to do anything else, then read the book, "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker so you can understand what you are dealing with. If you can read this book without the guy killing you over it.

This relationship shows ALL the signs of a controlling relationship that will escalate to violence and fear of your life or your children's lives. And honestly, are you happy living like this? Do you feel safe? Do you feel loved? Or are you willing to put up with it because you feel secure or because he might get rich then you would be living with a rich guy (until he kills you.) THIS BEHAVIOR ESCALATES to the point where a guy takes shotguns into your workplace and kills your friends. It really happens.

You will have to just get over your parent problems. If you can't explain now, after you get clear, then you can clear it up with them. For the moment, ask them to stay out of it.
