Sunday, April 27, 2025 is Babe Ruth Day 2025. Connecticut Patent of the Day: Happy Babe Ruth Day! Today is Babe Ruth Day.

George Herman "Babe" Ruth was sent to Baltimore's School for Boys as a teen and quickly becamse a school yard baseball start.

He was signed by the Baltimore Orioles and was traded to the Boston Red Sox and became a very succesful pitcher.

Managers saw what he could to with a bat so on his off days from pithcing, he would play the field.

Harry Frazee, in order to finance his theater productions, sold Ruth to the Yankees in December of 1918.

Yankees switched him over to the outfield and there he became the legend that he is now. He hit 70 home runs in 1927 and won his first World Title with teh Yankees in 1923

Ruth was a woman lover and very friendly around the kids and was famous for his "Bellyache Heard Round the World"

Barry bonds vs babe ruth who is better?

Babe Ruth dominated baseball like nobody else ever has, or ever will... but he did it during a time when the level of competition was pretty pathetic. He did it in an era where an opposing pitcher may have worked all day at a dockyard and then showed up to pitch 9 innings for the 3rd time this week. He faced pitchers pulled from a small number of American cities.

Barry Bonds dominated baseball when the people opposing him have year round fitness regimes and pitch 6 innings on 4 days rest. Bonds faced the best pitchers available from dozens of countries around the world.

And, keep in mind if you're going to use the steroids argument that you also have to factor in that Bonds would have faced "roided" up pitchers while Ruth wouldn't have. So, steroids really has no net effect on the debate.

I'm going to say Bonds was better, simply because of the superior competition he faced.

Did Babe Ruth earn a lot of money in his day?

He made $785,900 during his career.

The minimum for a MLB player in a season nowadays is $400,000. So basically, if a .240 hitter plays two seasons he will have made more than the greatest baseball player of all-time made in his career.

Ruth was the first player to make $50 K and more than the president.

In comparison, Lou Gehrig, who played with Ruth and who SABR ranks as the second best of all-time, made $23,000 in 1932. The Bambino was making $75,000 (and it was his last year, so way past his prime). So basically, Ruth made more than three times as much as any other player, which is about the equivelent of Alex Rodriguez making $60,000,000 a year (he currently makes $33 Mil).
