Whether it's a moral, nutritional, wellness or way of life selection, Vegetarian Day embraces and encourages respect for those which eschew consuming meat.
It's World Aids Day.
World Food Day... Calling all vegetarians... I need help!?
I would tell him that no, picking the meat out does not make a dish vegetarian, so no, I will not eat it.
I would also ask him: "This effort to do this exercise for World Food Day, doesn't that revolve around knowing more about others and respecting them? If I were to pick the meat out of dishes, I would not only grossly violate my own morals, I would feed my classmates the misinformation that it is okay to feed vegetarians food they have to pick the meat out of. And that is not okay.
Also I think that teaching us to respect others is impossible if we don't recieve the same respect you want us to grant others. Expecting me to go against my personal ethics or get a bad grade does not show that respect. Quite the opposite. Expecting me to eat food I have to pick the meat out of is like expecting a muslim to be okay with picking pieces of pork out of his food, or expecting you to be okay with picking pieces of human flesh out of the dish lovingly prepared for you by cannibals."
If he still won't budge, I would simply say "Well, I know your position and you know mine. I have tried being polite about informing you of this. I hope you will rethink your position."
Come the day of the exercize I would make sure to act interested in the foods my classmates brought, asking them questions about it and taking notes, but NOT eat even a single bite of anything with meat in it. If a bad grade resulted from that, I would fight it all the way to the school board and further if necessary. Go over his head. You may have to answer to your teacher, but HE has a whole bunch of OTHER people he has to answer to.
By the way, even though you may feel like that, do NOT bring up the fact that you would gag and get sick. You are right, nobody will understand. They will think you are just a picky eater making a fuss. Instead make it about personal morals and personal beliefs. Stress the PERSONAL part. Nobody will like you if you basically tell them that their diet is morally wrong, you are far more likely to get support if you say eating meat or food cooked with meat is against YOUR personal beliefs.
