I would like to point out to one of the other answerers that your teachers are not the reason you can't use proper grammar and spelling. Your teachers work their rears off trying to help you do well and you choose to do nothing.

People don't care. They assume that so long as their point gets across, it doesn't matter what it looks like. These people will start to care when they can't get a good job because their resume looks like a bad text message. I for one am proud to use proper grammar and I'm not afraid to correct people when I get the chance. IMs don't have to take over your life.

What's your opinion on our grammar these days?

I try my best to use proper grammar, but I must admit, the whole "who" and "whom" business escapes me sometimes.

Honestly, I feel that English grammar has become so "flexible" that I sometimes have a hard time telling when something is right, wrong, or right but just not how I would say it. Even though I am far from immune to the occasional grammar slip, it's just annoying to see people who consistently use, spell and speak English incorrectly without caring at all about how stupid it makes them sound. These are usually the same people who wonder why no one ever takes them seriously.
