3 days in San Diego...sea world, zoo or wild animal park?

3 days in San Diego...sea world, zoo or wild animal park?

Like the first person said, you could spend a half day at the zoo & take the other part of the day doing something else. If you want to see all 3 attractions, I would. The zoo can be enjoyed in about 4 hours or so. Sea World doesn't need to take 2 days to see, as it isn't like Disneyland where you have super long lines & you need to days. The thing about Sea World though, is there are a few rides there, & if you want to go on those rides, you do need to allow time to stand in line. Even if you went on every ride at Sea World, you would still have time to see the shows there. The seal show & the Shamu show are shows you won't want to miss.

The Wild Animal Park is about 30 miles northeast of San Diego & is quite different from the zoo. Both are world famous & worth seeing. With the Wild Animal Park, you can see the animals best by taking the tram, which does cost money. However, it's definitely worth it because the animals are in an environment out in the open which mimics their natural habitat. You can actually get up close enough to see the lions. I don't remember what time of year the Wild Animal Park allows overnight camping, but you can actually camp out there, & get a personal tour in a safari-type jeep, rather than a tram. It costs money, but gives you a VERY close up view of the animals in their natural habitat.

What I would recommend is going to the zoo's website, as well as Sea World's website, to see the rates of admission, parking, & to get details on the camping option at the Wild Animal Park. Each attraction does charge for parking, so make sure you are prepared for that. I think if you are not from San Diego, it's worth going to see all 3 attractions. If you aren't used to going to the beach, then I would forgo the Wild Animal Park & go to the zoo one day, Sea World one day, & the beach another day. Mission Beach is a good beach to go to because it is a popular beach, which also has one of the oldest & last remaining wooden roller coasters at Belmont Park (next to Mission Beach), along with amusement park rides & good food. The downside to Mission Beach is that it is almost always difficult to find parking close to the beach, & people sometimes sleep in the bathrooms. If you want a beach that is less crowded, try the Silver Strand beach on Coronado. You have to take the Coronado bridge to get there, & you have to make sure you obey the speed limit of "very slow" because they strictly enforce it. That beach does have free parking, but I recommend paying the $10 to park in their lots because it will give you up close parking, near lifeguard towers & bathrooms. It is a fairly clean beach & you will usually find sand dollars there if you look good enough.

That said, I hope you enjoy your visit to San Diego. If you have to give up 1 attraction, I'd give up the Wild Animal Park, but only because it has much of the same animals you will find at the zoo, but the zoo has more species of animals.
