You should immerse yourself in Russian (and not view it as studying!). Listen to Russian music instead of English, watch Russian TV/movies instead of English ones, speak Russian with people instead of English (if they can), etc. Basically, find a way to make Russian part of your life, by doing the things you love in Russian.

Using this opinion, do you think 4 hours a day would make you fluent? Nope. Russian children grow up speaking and hearing Russian 24/7, which is a LOT more than 4 hours a day.

I've been doing the same with Japanese, and can say that it has rapidly increased my ability in the language.

Only English+Russian will not give you many opportunities. You must combine languages with knowledge from other fields.

Russia is good place to earn money if you were sent here by international company. For this purpose you must have good education (in business area mostly. MBA is the best direction for you) + language, of course. The most profitable areas for foreign expats in Russia are: banking, investments, retail sales, consulting. Foreign workers are usually sent to develop company's business in Russia (for example, open new bank offices), as high skilled consultants in company decides to expand internationally (development of strategy etc...). In all these cases this person usually gets great salary opportunities.

Another variant is to teach English in Russia - it is not very profitable, but still you will get decent salary. It is perfect variant for those who like to communicate with people, like to experience culture from the inside etc... And it is not super intensive job in comparison with professions I described above.

So, everything is possible if it is your dream. Do what you like, it is your life, additional languages will never be a burden, it only opens you new horizons. You will get to know new culture your media do not want you to know from positive side.

Russian Language???

Russian Language???

Well, you're definitely not going to learn over night or even a year. Learning any language takes many many years, and only the truly dedicated learners will be able to master the language. With Russian, you have to take in the consideration of learning a whole new form of written works, called Cyrillic. You must also take in to factor about the grammatical setup and pronouncation. However, it is NOT impossible!

Websites:

First of all, try this one: ...

If good and easy. Also, you might want to try out youtube. Try typing in Learn Russian, and make sure to click on Victor Huglainov's, he's the odd looking guy, but his videos are GREAT!

Books:

One great book I know can be found in your local Barnes and Nobles Bookstore under the Language section. It's titled: "Learn Russian:10 Minutes A Day." This book is WONDERFUL, and I can't suggest it enough for beginners.

Culture:

Try finding anyone you live around and see if they're Russian, and ask to talk with them and have them teach you some. Also, try watching Russian movies. Two I can suggest to you are: Дневно́й дозо́р (Day Watch) and Ночной дозор (Night Watch). They come in subtitles, but you'll at least be watching a film in Russian that will help you progress, by hearing native speakers.

Music:

There are some GREAT Russian music groups! Go to youtube.com and type in: Fabrika, Blestyashie, Via Gra, Zhanna Friske, and Russian Music Videos.

Try these two websites as well: and ...
